Designing a Better Future: SBS Recognized for Entrepreneurship Impact at Expo 2025

What does it take to stand out among thousands of world-changing ideas? For Street Business School, it’s the power of entrepreneurship to lift people out of poverty – and this impact is now being recognized on one of the world’s biggest stages.

In June, Street Business School (SBS) Acting CEO Evan Cauble-Johnson traveled to Osaka, Japan, to visit the upcoming 2025 World Expo, where SBS has been honored as one of 25 Global Best Practices.

Expo 2025 is a World Expo organized and sanctioned by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). It will run for six months, from April 13 to October 13, 2025, and is expected to welcome approximately 28 million visitors.

The Expo’s overarching theme is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” with sub-themes of “Saving Lives,” “Empowering Lives,” and “Connecting Lives.” It aims to inspire progress towards a society in which the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are fully achieved.

This year’s Expo features participation from 158 countries and territories, alongside seven international organizations, creating a vibrant global platform for exchanging ideas that shape a better future.

The Best Practice Award Winners were selected from projects submitted worldwide for their certainty of impact, potential for regional development, and contributions to building a more equitable and sustainable world. Street Business School is featured under the descriptor “Poverty Alleviation through Entrepreneurship.” See the full list of award winners here.

At the Expo, SBS was invited to participate in a presentation and panel discussion alongside fellow award winners, including groups that leverage AI and advanced technologies for social good, increase global media literacy, and promote human rights, among other focus areas.

The SBS presentation was broadcast in the Future Villages section of the Expo, and the organization will be featured at the Best Practices Pavilion with an interactive video display throughout the event.

During the panel discussion, audience members expressed keen interest in SBS’s unique approach to fostering entrepreneurship and economic development in regions that have historically struggled to attract investment.

“This is an incredible opportunity to showcase Street Business School’s impact on a global stage,” said Cauble-Johnson. “We see this award as a recognition of what we’ve all known for a long time: Street Business School is delivering real, lasting results for communities impacted by persistent poverty.”

With participation from such a diverse range of countries, territories, and organizations, Expo 2025 catalyzes global collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovation. SBS hopes that, in addition to raising awareness of its work, participation in the Expo will foster new linkages and partnerships with organizations committed to empowering individuals to rise out of poverty through entrepreneurship
